In anyone’s bucket list
of the world’s greatest cities, Paris is high up there for romance, culture and
food, three of the best things in life and all at the fore in Nigel Cooke’s
sensitive images created in acrylics on board.
The city’s famous
street cafés feature in many of his paintings, including Café Deguerre and Café du Eiffel,
while the much-loved landmark referenced in the latter looms over Paris Blues, Meet Me in Paris and Paris
Heat. Meanwhile Parisienne Stroll
and Monsieur give those of us longing for a trip to France a flavour of
day-to-day life in the busy city.
The globe-trotting
artist says: “I used to think nothing of flying from London to
Paris and straight on to New York and back in five days.”
