Having spent the last 15 years developing his style, Paul Wright has become renowned across the globe for his intriguing portraits. I seek to capture a vitality beyond the establishment of a mere ‘likeness’ to the subject, says Paul with his unique, bold style. The british artist was born in Leicester in 1973 and trained to be an illustrator whilst
obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration at Falmouth College of Art. Despite having a promising career ahead of him as an illustrator, Paul developed a unique oil painting style using expressive brushstrokes.
Now a hugely successful artist, Paul’s recognised unique style has earned him a place at the BP National Portrait Award on two occasions.

The artist tends to paint using a rich, bold pallet and often swaps the bright colours for a monochromatic statement. Each and every brushstroke is visible in his paintings which creates an atmosphere that allows for ambiguity of the psychological state, whilst evoking a sense of intimacy.
His debut collection of hand embellished studio editions were released in 2021, with an incredible reception. Capturing each icon in a unique way, Paul Wright believes the subjects of his work as being glimpsed rather than exposed.
