Taking inspiration from his admiration of vintage books, as well as the Pop art of the 50s and 60s, James McQueen is a British artist living between London & New York, where he has been an actor for over 30 years.
Painting under a pseudonym since 2017, McQueen unites book-lovers and art collectors with his "Non-Fiction" collections. Using a spray can to create bold, vintage and distressed looking book covers, finished with his tongue-in-cheek and satirical quotes, McQueen has created a following with his contemporary works.
His 2022 collection “Non-Fiction” sold out in just a few hours, the demand for his collection confirms James McQueen as an artist to keep your eye on. Collectors were taken by McQueens authentic, textured and ‘wear and tear’ looking take on the classic book cover.
The richness and vibrancy used in his titles secures these as ‘stand out’ works for your collection. Having found inspiration in a number of artists including Rothko, Basquiat, Warhol, Banksy and Trey Emin; watch as influences from many major artists form to create McQueen’s collections.
The idea began with his grandfather; James McQueen notes how his grandfather’s book collection encouraged him to start his own. Now with over 300 books in his own collection, McQueen is fascinated with how they look, how they age and how each tattered and worn book cover tells a story of its own.
